Welcome to my new author website! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Shelly Marvell, and I am an author. You may know me better by my maiden name, Shelly Lawson, under which I have written 6 books in various genres.

I was born many moons ago in a small town in South Texas.  My mother told me that the first words out of the doctor’s mouth were not “It’s a girl,” but rather, “It’s a redhead.”

Which, of course, answers the question I get asked most about my hair: “Is it natural?”

I was diagnosed with a condition called Hydrocephalus when I was only two months old. What this means is that the spinal fluid doesn’t drain from my head properly on its own, so they put what’s called a shunt into my head with a tube that goes all the way down to my abdomen area to drain it for me.

As I was growing up, I remember getting excited when a movie or show was coming out where the main character had a similar condition. Then, whenever I would watch them, I would be shocked and dismayed to find that the inaccuracies were abundant and the bad things about it would be blown comically out of proportion.

Throughout my career as a writer, I have sought to put out literature that paints a more realistic picture of physical and mental illnesses. And that is my continued goal.
